I have had the good fortune to visit many wineries, big and small throughout the world. If I were to make one general observation, it is that you will undoubtably enjoy your visits to the smaller wineries while the larger ones range from average to downright mediocre.
In my first winery experience back in the 1980's, when visiting Napa's Sebastiani winery the experience was more like a factory tour than a winery visit. In Bordeaux in 2006 at Mouton Rothschild the facilities (art and wine caves) were second to none, however the wine tasting was more akin to a marketing presentation than an appreciation of their wines. As such, please visit the smaller or family run wineries for a more rewarding experience.
